Horsehair is the material dry brushing is built on. The tail and the mane give two different bristles with two different firmnesses and two different jobs. This page collects the cellulite, face and bath brushes we make from it.
Horse tail and horse mane are not the same bristle
Two bristles from the same animal, two different products. Horse tail is thicker and livelier; it holds its shape and pushes back when pressed against the skin, which is the feel dry brushing is after. Horse mane is finer and softer; it wakes the skin without scratching it.
On our firmness scale the mane sits in the middle and the tail one step firmer. Tail for body brushing, mane for reactive skin and the face. If you cannot decide, we send both in the sample so you can judge them by hand.
White, brown and grizzled bristle
Horsehair arrives naturally in everything from white to dark brown. White mane is scarcer, so brushes made from it cost more. Grizzled — our word for mixed tone bristle — gives a natural look and sells well at retail.
Colour changes the look, not the firmness. Against pale packaging grizzled bristle gives contrast; for a clean, light brand look white sits better.
Body, size and marking
Bodies are boxwood, hornbeam and beech, all hard and close grained, so they do not swell quickly when wet. Cellulite brushes use the banded oval body as standard, in full size and mini. Bath brushes come with 45 cm and 35 cm long handles.
Your logo is laser burned into the wood. A simple mark with clean lines comes out best. On packaging there are cotton pouches, kraft bands and boxes, all built to your brief.

Common questions
Which bristle for dry brushing?
Horse tail for the body. The lively bristle pushes back when pressed, which is the feel people are after. For reactive skin move to horse mane; it does the same job more gently.
Does it shed on first use?
A few strands is normal in natural bristle and stops quickly. Shedding in clumps is different, that is a production fault and it is covered by the warranty.
Why does white bristle cost more?
White horse mane is scarcer. The bristle cost feeds straight into the price, so the same model is priced differently in white and in grizzled.
Can we have it under our own brand?
